Harrisburg Academy’s NewsMagazine – Until 2016 (when I phased out the piece in favor of digital promotional efforts), NewsMagazine was an annual print and electronic publication about the people who made the Academy an exceptional place at which to learn — teachers, students, parents, alumni, and friends. At the time, NewsMagazine was the institutional publication with the greatest reach, with copies being distributed to 3,700 people.
This high-quality publication was produced with a Communications Office staff of two full-time employees, using only one-fifth of our total office hours. My assistant and I managed editorial copy decisions, conducted interviews, wrote and edited articles, took photographs, provided extensive input on creative presentation to our professional graphic designer, and managed the production process with our printing company (please note – we did outsource layout to a professional graphic designer). With all of the time, thought, and revisions that went into producing the magazine, we still managed to keep our unit cost to a reasonable $1.83.
